VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

TnE monthly inspect ion of tho Auckland Kille Brigade takes place i:i the Albert Barrac'ri? at iialf-pnst seven o'clock this evening, X:ie Scottish Volunteers meet for their usual weekly drill iu Fort Britomart, at halfpast seven o'clock this evening. The monthly inspection of the Engineers die? place in the Albert Barracks 011 Wednesday evening next. The monthly inspection of the Scottish Volunteers takes place at Fort Britomart 011 Tuesiiav evening next. There was a very good muster of No. 2 Company Navals and Cadets, at Fori, Britomsrt. last, evening. The men were put through various evolutions, which were Tery trail done.

The XiiiMES Challenge.—A meeting of Volunteers interested in the challenge from the Thames Volunteers was held in the Drillshed, Frh.ces-street, last evening, to hear the report of the committee appointed at the lastmeeting. Captain Johnston (>"o. 2 avals) was voted to the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Xhe secretary then read the report. The committee said that before they could accept the challenge they must have £65. Xhe secretary had sent circulars to the seventeen companies and they had received answers to eight only. The total sum subscribed was £3S 10s, thus leaving the sum of £27 to be made up. With this sum against them the committee could not accept the challenge. The report was then adopted. A letter from the Hobson Company, declining to guarantee any sum towards the match, was then read. Also a letter fron the secretary of the Thames committee, saying th.it the Thames Volunteers a ere surprised at- the tardiuess of the Auckland Volunteers in accepting the challenge. J It was resolved to send subscription lists to each of the companies, one to the captain and the other to an energetic member of the same corps, and that the list be requested to be sent to the secretary by Thursday nest. Captain Lundon, of the Onehunga Rifle Company, then came forward, and on beha.f of himself and officers, guaranteed £4. A Tote of thanks ts-ss then proposed, seconded, and carried to the chairman, also to Captain lundon.
