THE INTERCOLONIAL BOAT RACE.
A "Wellington paper of the 17th says :— " The Chriatchurch papers contain very full notices of the crews to compete in the great boat race. Xho Wellington crew is favorably spoken of in both papers, and stands second in the betting, the places given in a telegram received from a Christchurch rosident being— Lyt.teltou, 1 ; Wellington, 2; and Kaiapoi,
The same paper of tlio 17th says:—" A private telegram received on Saturday, from a Cristchurch resident, states that the Christchurch people are much disappointed at the withdrawal of the Auckland boat from the intercolonial race. Tlio telegram also states that the Wellington crew are much improved in th'ir rowing, are doing good training, and havo advanced to o good position in the betting, the boat being backed in many influential quarters for a place in tho race. The Lyttelton crew are first favourites. The Wellington committee are canvassing the city, and it is hoped those interested in the success of the boat will do their little towards the expenses."
Wo learn from a passenger by the Wellington, yesterday evening, that on Monday last the wire communication between Nelson and Ilavelock broke down, and communication was stopped. The consequence was, that no intelligence had reached Nelsan of the boat race, which was to have come off that day. We shall probably hear the result of the race by tho next arrival from the South.
