AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY, RESIDENI MAGISTRATE'S COURT, &c. A itEETIXG of some of the principal acriculturists aud settlers in the Waikato wa°s held yesterday afternoon, in the Hamilton Hall tor the purpose of taking into consideration the advisability of forming au Agricultural Association, wil.!i a view to the establishment or periodical exhibitions of cattle sheep poultry, and colonial produce. Mr. Leslow was Toted chairman of the meeting Mr lutrick Leslie, J.P., addressed the meeting j D ' a uio.t abusive and virulent manner condemning the nction taken by Mr. Thomas Farrell in bringing forward the matter. The language made use of was most insulting and such that no person who aspires to the title of J.l\ -would be guilty of; in fact, it was quite a miracle that us was not given into custody lor a breach of the peace. Great praise is due to Mr. Farrell for the energy, time, aud money he has expended in (lie advancement of agricultural interests in the Waiks.to After much talking, on the part of Mr] Leslie—which vras not fit for publication, it was resolved to form a committee of two members from each Highway District in the VVuikulo to carry out tho wishes of the meeting. A vote of thanks to tho chairman concluded tho business of tho meetin<* which may bo considered tho most "rowdy," if I may use tho expression, that has ever been held in Hamilton. Hγ. JTarrell has laid an information against Mr. Leslie, witli a view to his being bound over to keep the peace. —W. N. Searancke, ■Esq., Chairman of School Committee, presented rewards, to-day, to tho children attending the district school, who had most distinguished themselves during the pust.eii months. The duties of tho school will be adjourned until Monday, the 15th January, 1872, being the Christmas vacation. The election of a school committee for the year ending 31st December, 1872, will take place on the Bth January, 1572.—1n the Resident Magistrate's Court, yesterday, a ease of great nportanco was inquired into— riz., the Xlaiuillon Highway Trustees r. Paul, for rates, Tho ovidenco of Paul, and u witness named Kvrington, on behalf of the defendant, hurt been tuken before the District Judge in Auckland, and forwarded to this Court. It was proved that Ewington had never been gazetted or duly authorised to collect rates, on behalf of the old Board, but acted under au nuthority. Also, it was proved from tho treasurer aud trustee of the lato Board (which was not recorded in tho minute book, as directed by the Highways Act, 1871,) that the chairman of the late Board knew of uo existing agreement between the trustees aud a collector in Auckland. Judgment deferred till nest Court-day, 22nd January, 1572.— [Correspondent, December 20.J
