LATEST THAMES NEWS.

[fBOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Monday, 2 p.m. tioi.KEN Ckows. —Tncrkaskd Kiciixess of the .New Lode.—On my calling at this company's ofliee tin's morning to licar of tlie new lode reported in my .Saturday's lfttor, I was informed l>y Captain Richards that it was improving immensely in richness ; and also, ns followed, it was becoming larger, nnd, without doubt, has removed the cloud by which this celebrated claim has been overcast for tlujvist weeks. I was invited to go below and See for myself; this 1 accordingly did, ami found the reef to be about three feet thick, and well defined. As to what X snw in it I can scarcely find words to Rive expression to. What i saw I thought was mundic by the largo quantity, but 1 whs pleasantly deceived when taking a few stones out, I found it was tho precious metal. It was from the foot wall tc the roof, in large layers of about half an inch thick, almost solid, and to sum up, it surpassed anything I ever witnessed. iMTKiiiAL Citow.v. —It is not only in the foregoing claim I have to report rich stone, but it is very gratifying to be able tf you something good of this mine, splendid stone was taken out by (.'aptain lliggins this morning (which I saw) whilst driving on the No. 1 leader, in the upper level, and as the drive is extended the stone becomes first-class, and ii.% the manager says, ere lininy days elapse ho will have some magnificent " tack " to grass, lie is now going down to the 100 feet level to commence a rise on tho back of this, so as to open a communication for stoping out. Not much work has been done on the lode known us tho '• Little Duller," but which has proved to be one of great value, and steps are now being taken to drive, Sec, so as to be in :i position before many days are over, to have sufficient stone to make a good crushing, the result of which will, no doubt, be anxiously looked forward to by many of your readers. A fow tons of stone from No. 1 will be commencod upon to-night at Tookey's, and the result I will forward without loss of time. In this claim so much energy has been displayed that I am very glad to be able to report anything so favourable to its prospects. Thore can be no mistake about the matter this time, and the Impev'rl Ciowti will, I believe, rank amongst the foremost claims on the li-1 I. Long Puive.—The retort for this company is not yet off the fire, but judging"!'}- th<- amount of amalgam going on. There cannot be much less than 2SO or :!00 ozs. of gold to swell the return of Saturday. City of London (late Tower of London) have completed their small crushing ol about thirteen tons at Vickery's machine, and the yield is a very satisfactory one, being over 2 ozs. to the ton, or a total ol 27 ozs. 19 dwts. 12 grs. melted gold. Belfast.—The result of the lato milling at Hie. Tramway battery is just to hand and I find that the yield is far from beins satisfactory, it being 21 ozs. 11 dwts. o: melted gold. I have never hnd an oppor tunity of inspecting this mine, but froir what I can gather, many of the shareholders have no lack of confidence as tc its richness. I heard a person, whose knowledge of this lociility is second tc none on the field, say to-day, when lit knew the result, tbat another cnishtiif like the two last, and then it wouid b< time for him to buy pretty still. Just IN Time.—For .several days tin.claim has been working steadily to som. advantage on th.-ir well known reel, am are now about to commence upon a larm lot of stone at the Tramway machine. ;nv the-poor result which attended the as lot will, in this instance, fully, 1 under stand, comp -nsate them for the ddieien yield tli-it they hud then. Tbt Again Boys.— This property wa ; formerly known as liallynure Company and is now held under miners' rights, i

has been worked a long time with little succuss, but within the last few days several interests have changed hands, one cf which fell to the lot of a well known mining manager, and his skill being brought into requisition after having ex' amined the Uuby and Wade lodes, he put in a cross cut from their low level, and within the la*t day or two cut the above lode, which is turning out some splendid stone. It is shortly intended to have a crushing at the Criterion bnttery, and from what is known of that lode, I think I shall not be far wrong in saying that the result will be more than payable. [FROM THE "THAMES ADVERTISER."] TnE CiTr op Dvsedis. —The City of Dunedin claim, Tinker's Gully, Taram, cleaned up partially at the Russell battery on Saturday night. From a fortnight , ! crushing of 160 tons, with ten stampers, 1985 oz?. of hardsqueezed amalgam were obtained from the plates and stumper-boxes alone; the silver ami blanketings aro not yet treated. They expect to keep the ten stampers goinj all winter. This ought to m:t as an incentive to those having claims in this locality, and who hive given up working, to recommence operations with as little «!«■! iy es possible. The Have Ckkf.k.—We aru> glad to notice that there is likely to be a considerable amount of briskne--" in the Hape Creek, consequent on the con«truelion of the tramway. The Pretty Nelly is now in direet communication with the tr-iiiiwiiy. by means of » tnu-k----wuv, shout, mill pnil'l'H'k, and is crushing stuft" at "the Ilape Creek battery that will probably |>a\ well. There are also a number of others making similar arrangements. Aitongst these we may mention the Golden Anchor, which some time siiu'O made a remarkably goodehow amongst the mine-* of this district, on account of the size and riehnes3 of a ljrge reef that w.n opened in it. A shoot from this mine is no.v in course of construction, and will shortly be completed, when it is intended at onee to commence sending down quartz. We are informed that the tramway is kept cinstantly and profitably employed, and the traffic superintendent expects to find employment for more trucks and horses before long. When not engaged bringing down stone the trucks are kept going on firewood, mining timbers, shingles, &c. It is probable that as soon a< t be wire tramway is finished, the main line will be extended as far as the F.il.K. bat t err. The Berkeley Castle. —The crushing from the large reef of the Port Wuikato (part of the Berkeley Castle Company's ground), at Clarkson's battery is like to prove a payableone. A partial cleaning up that took place on Saturday night appeared to promise such a result. i'liE Ctv of Lo>v>ox. —The crushing for the City of London (late Tower of London), at Vickery's battery, bids fair to yield a result most satisfactory to the shareholders, for .judging by the large amount of amalgam to hand the average trill be over two ounce 3 to the ton.
