Mr. Mackay spoke at' great length, and was extremely well received by the miners assembled, for his frank, straightforward, and manly expression of his views on the various topics of interest. Mr. D. Grove followed, and met with a warm reception at the hands of those present. Mr. James Sutherland, a mine and legal manager, then stepped forward, and said he attended in response to the invitation of some nine hundred electors, who had signed a requisition presented to him that morning. The people, however, appeared to think there was some mistake, and could not see the speaker's qualifications for the office.
