LATEST FROM THE THAMES.

(feosi oue own corbespondewt.) Geahamstowk, Wednesday evening. Another lot of rich specimens were brouehi down from the Digger's Friend to-day. This will no doubt prove one of the very best companies on lie goldfield. Scrip has changed hands here this afternoon freely at £1 2s. 6d. and £1 5 S and has a rising tendency. "' The Golden Crown stuff was retorted thi« afternoon at the Prince Alfred battery, and gare the handsome yield of 191 ounces of gold. Some excellent specimens were brought in, this afternoon from some claim on the Tararua Creek, the name of which I have been unable to ascertain. 'Ihe i ity of Glasgow are turning out some magnificent stuff. The crushing, which will take place shortly, will, I imagine, astonish many. The following are the quotations on the Stock r-xchange to-day :—Cures—buyers at3ss,sellers at -10s, sold at 30s ; Red Queen—buyers at los, sellers at 17s 6d, sold at 15s ; Digger's Friend — sold 22s 6d ; Kureka Gold Mining Companybuyers at 37s 6d, sellers at 40« ; .\loanatairi3—. sellers at £1-1 10s, sold at£M; Pride of Karaka —sellers at £3 ; Deep Lead—sellers at £13 ; All Nations—sellers at £17 10s ; Inverness—sellers at £4; Mount Kden—sellers at £1 10s; Otago — sellers at £5 ; Great Hr-public—scrip, sellers .it £100; Shotover—sellers at £6; Young American—sellers at £C. TOOKEY'S CLAIM. About sixty pounds of specimens from the above claim were crushed in she amalgamator at the Tramway battery yesterday, but the amalgam has not been retorted. They are cleaning up the battery to-day in order to commence on a large parcel (100 tons) from the Charleston. The amalgam from the specimens and general crushing of Tookey's will be retorted to-morrow or Friday. Ono of the small streamlets which runs into Moanatairi creek possesses such peculiar rroperties as leave no doubt that the spring from which it Hows contains some mineral deposit of highly aciduous nature. The taste of the water is like a stroi.g solution of alum. The locality of this small creek is the Norwegian claim, worth a visit from some of our scientific gentlemen, who might, on analysis, find this water to be of some use medically or otherwise. We hear that an action for " breach of promise" is about to be brought against a solicitor by a ex - barmaid. An eiume-.t legal gentlemen has received a retainer from the injured one to conduct her case. Some very prett3 - specimens from the Thrieve Castie were brought into town this aft-rnoon from tin , loader which was struck yesterday ■ a small feeder from the Waiteniata.— Erf-ninn Shir, .August 5.
