AMERICAN CRUSHING MACHINES.

To the Vditor of tho Übbald. St.ii,—Having received from tho OniteJ States recently, a communication respecting a plant of machinery for crmhing quartz and amalgamating tbe gold contained it, I beg to subjoin an extract from tho letter of ray eorre«pond-nt, a it may be interesting to the mining community from tho vory large percentile of gold stated to be saved, at alio from tho crushing operations being carried on without tbe aid of water:— "My §et of machinery will extract from any kind of gold-bearing rook 90 per cent, of the gold con- ] tained in the rock, and that, too, cheaply, at no more •xpenie than the ftamp mill, with the exception of drying the ore; for, at I grind it dry, it hat to be dried for my prcceis. " I hare ««v«ral mill* now running, iodii on iron pyrites, and they work well—»»ving 90 per cent, of the gold in tho ore. The mill consitts of one cruiher, two reg'inderi, and five amalgamator!, and it takei a fifteen horte-power engine to drive the mill. Its eost (in greenbacks) and weights are at follows : — '■r„„i. lT ;:.cp-> '-...vi.-iMi. "a Krgriuders 3,u0 i O.OOulb. "* Amalgamators .. 2,600 -I.OOPIb. $7.600 19,-iOOlb. " Iho neecntary pulleys, shafting, and b»lm.. '-'H coit about 1000 dollars. I'hit set. of machinery will wotk fifteen tons of ore per day." From the channel thro sgh which the above has reached me I ft:*! a«tured the process it as ri-prcieritrd —one of »<m« Jldt merit, and I thall be haf.py to afford to any purlin interested what further ii.f rmatioa I pos>cis on the matter. —1 am, &a , W.
