AUCKLAND STOCK AND Si I ARK MAE KMT:

Mil. 8. VICKBIIS' RE]'(HIT. The following may b'3 considered tho quotations for tho respective, sharp*,, but the business doing is of the most limited character.

. SIIORTLAKD -SHAKE.MABKET. MESSRS. BBKTHAM, ■ WJIKEK, AND CO.'s 11EPOHT. Jn first-c'aPß claims prices continue to advance. Shares in tho Deep i.cacl, Dawn of Hope, Hokitika, Harp of Erin, and Sweeney's, have been in demand, and. there has been a run on some claims of less repute. Second-rate and back country claims scarcely command the price they deserve, und those away from a locality whero machinery is about to be OTectcd are unsaleable. There are many oxcellent and firstclass claims that are rarely quoted, through an unwillingness on the part of tho shareholders to have a definito valuo attached to their property. An auction ealo last Saturday by order of the Court, produced only £20 each for two f shares in the Morning Btar, Waiotahi; and the wholo of the Prince of Wales Claim, Karaka, (with the eicoption of a quarter-share), together with all the plant on the Kround, was sold for £2 per sharo ; but this cannot bo accepted as a fair critorion of their value. Other I shares offered on the same occasion were withdrawn.

At Tapu tho prices asked, though in many instances not beyond their value, have been too high to invite speculation.

The magnificent reef running through sovpn claims in tho Prospectors' Valley at Puriri, will shortly take its place nB a notable and valuable foaturo in these goldfields, when tho proposed machinery for which the shareholders have been so loner and anxiously waiting shall have started to work. We have been informed of two separato parties who are contemplating the erection of machinery on that ground, and we know of no better opening on the Thames Gold-Held.
