PRINCE OF WALES THEATRE.

Mns. Robert Heir made her second appearance before an Auckland audience lost ovoning, on which occasion the magnificent play of the "Hunchback" was produced. The play itself is so well-known to the theatre-loving public that we need not allude to its plot. The part of tho heroine Julia lost none of its attractions in such hands as those of Mrs. Heir who acted this peculiarly difficult part with a natural esse, graco, and taste, peculiarly her own. The simple country girl, tho queen of fashion, and the natural injured woman, were played in such a manner that one would fancy there were three different actresEes instead of one, such -versatility of talent did she show. The continued bursts of applause ■ from the audience showed how thoroughly Mrs. Heir's talents were appreciated. The part of the Hunchback devolved rn Mr. W. Q. Carey, and that talented actor came out in even brighter talent than ha did on the previous evening. Miss Shepparde's impersonation of Helen was tfover, tasteful, and ladylike, and she many times earned deserved plaudits, which Mr. Jotes shared with her in the love scene bet .veen the cousins. We must not forget to t.'ve his meed of praise to Mr. Clifford's impersonation of Sir Thomas Clifford. All the other parts in the piece were acted wifh care by members of the Star Company. The evening's amusements concluded with the screaming farce of Cousin Tom, which passed off most successfully. Before concluding we would wish to express, our astonishment at the thin atten---I dance in. the dress circle last night, while the other! parts were crowded to excess, and would remind the better educated portion of the community, who are gene-ally expected to.sive a tone to int.-llectual entertainments of this kind, that by not patronising the legitimate drama when an actress of such aoknow-" ledged tilent visits them, they Rive no encouragement to any but eecond-claßS.arti.sto to appear m Auckland. " Ingomar " will be produced this evening. .•■..■':'■■'
