LEVEE
GOVERNMENT HOUSE. The first levee of the new Governor, Sir G-. F. Bowen was held on Saturday, and was attended more numerously than such ceremonials have been of late years. he weather was very unfavourable, yet the influential settlers from all parts of the province assembled to pay their respects. For the first time, after a long interval, there was an airof homeliness aboutthevice-regaj reception. The representative men of all classes were present, as will be seen by the list of names which is subjoined. Had the weather been fine the scene in front of Government Mouse would have been very inspiriting; but unfortunately there is a great ocular discrepancy between the tweed over-all and the cocked hat, gold lace, and feather. 'Ihe numbers of Naval, Military, and Volunteer officers in uniform was much greater than heretofore. The same may be said of the clergy and members of the liberal professions, the leading men of business and trade, and private gentlemen. A detachment of the ISth Uegiment was formed on the lawa, also sections of the various Volunteer Corps with their officers, the iNaval Volunteers being both in number and appearance conspicuous. The bands of the ISth Kegiment and the Volunteers rospectively were present and performed several pieces of music during the levee.
