COMPENSATION COURT.—Thursday.
(Before Thos Beekhum, Esq., K.M.) Mr. Constable, of Waiuku, culled at the Court and gave explanation resjii-cting the thrashing: muchirie, referred to ly a claimant on a forintr day. ilr. Constable stated that ho tosk a portion of Puora's machine, with Ahipene's permission, and repaired it; afterwards offered it to tlin natives if they would give him£S for what ho had done to it, or he would give them £S for their s-hnre of it. They elected then-to have the £$, and let him have the machine. The whole expenditure by Mr. Constable, on the machine, has amounted to about £40, to make it in good working order. I'r. Eoardman s'ated tli.it from enquiries he had made respecting Pacra'j stafment, he had been informed irom gooil authority that he could rely upon, that Mr. Constable had bought a portion of the machine from the native?, thus corroborating Mr. Constable's 'htatenirnt. The na'ive claimant had evidently not told the whole truth when he gave his own evidence. , :
