SIR GEORGE GREY TO BE RELIEVED.
Tn-5 !-st Auckland papers to hand contained tvh'it appeared to be authentic intelligence, said to bo ccmjnunicated in a despatch to Sir George Grey, to the effect that ho was to remain Governor of this colony until aftor tbe departure of the Duko of Edinburgh. That D;>'ivs bun goao the rounde of tho Prose of the colony, but it has not the slightest foundation in fact. OL'ho absence of Her Majesty when Sir George Bcwen's commission as Governor of this colony required her signature, caused a delay of one month only. He has left Queensland, is now in Sydney, and, unless some unforseen accident may occur, will Vβ in Wellington on the 6th or 7th of next month, and will at once be sworn in as Governor. It appears that the home authorities are under the impression that Sir George Grey hae left the oolony, as their last despatches were not addressed as usual to him, but "To the Officer Administering the Government of the Colony of New Zealand." This will be a disappointment to many who considered Sir George Grey tho most fitting man to aocompany the Duke of Edinburgh on his tour through thie island. We trust he may yet do so as a private gontleman.— Wangamti Times, January 23.
