LICENSED HAWKERS.
To the Editor of the Hebaki. Sib,—tloase allow an old patron of your valuable paper the usual indulgence of a few remarks. Timoa are dull, and Government want finances—let, them tax all hawkers of goods. I am one of that class myself, and to advocate such a measure seems strange, but there are two eidea to a question. Such a meaauro would givo dignity and respectability to the fair trader, and raise finances so much needed. Lot each man carry with him hie ticket and number, and if guilty of anything unprincipled, let his license bo suspended or taken away: any well-thioking man would approve of «uch a measure. The sum might be nominal, say ten shill-nge a year, paid in advance. The police could have a list of their names and numbers, and any working without a license would be found out find punished; find, ehould the number of hawkers increase, out of thin fund perhaps, at a future day, a market might be raised, and an inspector of fish, and other goods paid out of the revenue so dorivod. Hoping these suggestions may bo benefioial, I am, &c, A Fish-hawkbb.
