GAME LAWS.
To the Editor of the Herald. Sia,—Mr. Burtt (tho Secretary of the Acclimatization society), having replied to a letter signed by "M. P." and which appeared in your journal on the 22nd instant, approving of the sa'd lotter, I beg to be allowed to ramark that I do not think the country peop'e should expect to have it all their own way. I would ask were the pheusant-t imported for the sole benefit of thy country people, or for the benefit of the whole cohny ? I must confess I waß Biirprised eomo time ago to see a remark from a country gentletnun at one of tho of the Acclimatization Society, to tbid effect. "That the license fee ought not be reduced fr m £5, iis the pheasuits would be exterminated." And then almost iu the eamo breath, the same gentleman expressed it as his opinion that tlw sons of farmers should be allowed to shoot, a3 veil a3 their fathers, on their own ground. Now, sir, U it not well-known that the last ee.'ieon the hotels in town, (iu fact any one) could procure pheasants at any price almost, iiud in anj' quantity from some of these country farmers, who are so anxious to protect the bird, and for what reason anybody can soe. I do not mean for one moment to class all the farmers as greedy and semV.i by any means, for 1 have fca<l the greatest kindnuse fiom many gentlemen io the country, from whom I hiivo leust expected it, but I do think our country friends should not " black b<ill"o;ir town sportsmen altogether, and wish us to pay £5, and want to pay nothing theraeeives. A.H 1 ru!o the town spjrtsmau hss only a few days' shooting for hie money during the season, and why be hind on them.—l am, &c, A Town SronTaiux.
