Sin, —In reply to your correspondent M.P. of tlu9 morning, I bee to state that tho Auckland Acclimatisation Society had nothing whatever to do with the Act in quos-tiou. Aβ it was thought by many persons that the Acts of 1866 required amendment—and as the subject was brought under the notice of the Council and the Acclimatisation Society, a sub-commitlee waß ap- ! pointed to prepare such amondments to the working of Acts as experience suggested ; the amendments as brought up waro adopted by tho Council, to be forwarded to Woliington. Aβ, however, it was thought bettor to have a new Act, the President of tho Council, Mr. Gillies, took the tronble to put the wl.olo inta sh;ipa and forward it ti Mr. Stafford. It waa bolievcd that as this Province, was thoonly one which hud any amount of game preserved, and at the Acclimatisation Society ivid about seventeen months' expori"iice in carrying oul. the existing law, that our suggestions would have had some consideration, but we hnvo been universally disippjinted. I may mention thufc one of the alterations sutjgosted by tho Society was that n-it only the proprietors as heretofore, but the sons of proprietors should be permitted to shoot on their own enclosed land without a license. I happy to hnve thi* opportunity of exonerating the Auckland Aur.limiiti'-aliuii Society from any jiarticip:ilion in the framing of tho ohnoiious Bill.—l am, &c., James Bubit. Hon. Secretjry to the Auckland Af:c!imati*ation Society. rjriiia Act is anothor imtrtnee ■ f Wellington lep.is-l-.Hon a3 applied to Au3>;li\nd. It 13 ac Act wbirh hna been fruin.-d for this Ler.c'iC of tho South, f.nd applied l~> the I'rovi'.ico of Auckland, irrespective of whether or not i:. \v;is applicable to this part of JJew Zeaknil. Rogulationa v-hich might bo desirable elsewhere, !irtd act very fairly, in this cr.se are unjust to us. Wo haro 11 number ot small freeholders in rtucklar.d, and the Southern legislators displayed a great amouat of ignorance in attempting to enforce an act of this kind among Lhein, which, while not oppressive to the largo liindholders, ha rendered most intolerable to the smaller ones.— b'u.'N.^.fi.]
