POLICE COURT.—Saturday.

! (Before Thomas Beckham, Esq., 8.M.) LARCENY. John Casey, alias "Williams, was brought up charged with having stolen a satin hat from the shop of John McLachlan, Queen-street. He pleaded not guilty. John McLachlan, deposed: On Friday evening.last I missed a ladies'hat from the door. I value it at 10s. Detective O'Hara deposed to having met the prisoner in Queen-street, and seeing a bundle under his coat asked him what it was. He said it was a hat belonging to Mrs. McGinn. While they were talking Mrs. McGinn came up, and prisoner ran away, throwing down the hat. The prisoner had only just come out of the stockade, and had several times previously been convicted. Eliza McGinn, deposed that she had not given the hat to the prisoner. Had never seen it until I she saw it in prisoner's possession. His Worship said there could be no doubt about the prisoner's guilt, and ordered him to be impiisoned for three months with hard labor. ANOTHER CASE. Patrick Doyle was charged with having stolen from the premises of 1. J. Thomas, in Victoriastreet, one coat value £1 ss. He pleaded not guilty. Prosecutor deposed that he resided at the "Victoria Stables, and having lain down to sleep on the night of the 21st inst., he placed his reversible coat beside him. On awaking in the morning the coat was missing. (Identified the coat produced). Tomas Powell, proprietor of tho Mechanics' House of Call, Chancery-street, deposed that about five days ago the prisoner oit'ered him the coat, and the following day gave 'it to detective Ternahan. Detective Ternahan, deposed to having received the coat from the last witness. Knew the prisoner to be an old offender. The same prisoner was also charged with stealing a whip from the shop of Mr. Kennedy, 5 Queen-street.

Andrew Larder, - deposed to having been in the shop at the time the prisoner took a riding whip. On coming outside witness advised prisoner to return the whip, as it was of no use to ' him. Prisoner refused to do so, and subsequently witness gave information to Mr. Kennedy. His Worship found tho prisoner guilty, and sentenced him to four months imprisonment with hard labour for the first offence, and to three months for the second, the sentences to run consecutively. another case. John Bushnell pleaded guilty to stealing an overcoat, value 3ss., from the shop of John Seabrooke, Queen-street. Ho pleaded guilty, stating that necessity had driven him to committing the theft. Sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labor. vagrancy. John Tackabury was summoned for but did not appear to answer the charge of being an habitual drunkard. A warrant was issued for his apprehension, James Sullivan pleaded guilty to a similar offence, and was ordered to be imprisoned for month, with hard labour. 1 his concluded the business.
