CHBISTCHUROH. The numerous failures that we have noticed lately have been detrimental to business operations, •which are now confined to the narrowest limits, and the utmost caution is perceptible amongßt both wholesale and retail houses, leas than the u6ual quantity of goods hare been quitted during the past week, buyers only purchasing little lots to assort stocks. Wholesale houses, however, refuse to quit except at fair prices and short credits. The I.incoln, from london, with immigrants and cargo, is now considerably overdue, and is anxiously looked for. The Lancashiro Witch may also bo expected soon. "We have to report a meeting of creditors of Mr. Gee, confectioner, of Colombo-street, with liabilities stated at £2COO, and assets about £600. It was agreed that Mr. Gee should carry on his business, as tile assets, if realised at a fyvonrsihip opportunity, would probably realise much higher than if thrußt on the market at present. The grain market does not show any signs of revival, but should the cargo of the Charlotte Andrews be placed on the Sydney market at or over 4s per bushel, we may expect to see several shipments hence. Wheat here continues to be oifered at 3s, and oats at 2s Gd, but little is doing at theso prices. Barley is without buyer?, the malterors having already secured their stocks. Bay is deplt in at last week's rates, and now that winter is set in we may expcct large quantities to change hands. Potatoes are only quitted in smnll quantities for heme consumption at £2 5s to £2 10s per ton. Onions are offering at from £10 to £11 per ton, but cannot find buyers. Saturday's market, on account of the wet day, was only moderately attended, antl little business done. A few of the milch stock were sold; the others were withdrawn, being under reserTe prices. — Press, June 18.

OTAGO. A great dulness prevails in business. The transactions of the past day or two in tho import market have furnished nothing worthy of notice, buyers seeming indisposed for any but trifling parcels. There hag, however, been a fair amount of orders for coastwise requirements, and as country storekeepers have been ordeiing but sparingly of late, it is probable that after the lapse of a few days trade will regain activity in that and other respects. The Elizabeth Fleming, with a general cargo from Glasgow, adds to the stocks of several items becoming scarce. — Times, June 10.
