COROMANDEL.
(from ona own coaußsrosDEXT.) T . June 20. 1 have not much of importance to report this week, further than that we have seen two very rich pieces of quartz, tvboufc the size of a goose egg, which were taken out of the Coroniandel claim. The Waihau shaft sinking is resumed again. Our Amateur Concert came off last night, and considering the very short time allowed to prepare for it, was a great success. It waa held in our schoolroom, which was very tastefully fitted up for the occasion. The people obtained admissim by tickets. There were nine performers in all, four ladies and five gentlemen > a lady presided at the piano. The selection of pieces wa3 varied, and afforded great satisfaction; the comic songs were most popular, and no wonder, for they were sun* with great effect by Mr. Stevens, which called forth immense applause. Some of the ladies also wero most warmly encored ; in fact, the large attendance at the concert was most encouraging to the performers; who, doubtless, will be induced to give a series of them from time to time. The object for.which this concert was given was for the purpose of making up our schoolmaster's pay. as the fees at present are not so numerous as they might be. We are informed that the amount realized last night was £S. ■ lam also glad to report that several natives have informed us that the natives up the Thames and elsewhere are engaged in planting wheat, and that they mean to cultivate extensively this season; this looks like turning . their swords into ploughshares, aad long may they be thus peaceably employed. Resident Magistrate's Codet.—Before H. C. Lawlor, Esq., R.M. Horrie v. Bange, claim £9 16a 9.; judgment confessed. Thoad v. Lethbridge, claim £5 9s ; settled out of Court.
