OPENING OF THE NEW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, NORTH SHORE.
Yesterday, the neat little edifice, built for the Presbyterian Church at the Flagstaff, North Shore, was opened for the first time for divine service. The weather was anything but propitious for the occasion in the morning—the rain descending inperfect torrents, which had the effect of reducing the attendance. Notwithstanding, there was a good congregation of the North Shore residents, and others from tho town, in
answer to the call, and service was conducted by the Rev. I>. Bruce. The afternoon service was held by the Rev. Mr. Hill, when, the weather having cleared up, there was a good attendance, as also iu the evening, wheu the Rev. X'avid Bruce:
again officiated. A collection was made at the ciose of each service, aud a goodly sum collected. A full and efficient choir was in attendance and performed some exquisite picces of sacred music. This church is situated on an eminence near Lake I\oad, commanding an extensive view of the harbour. It is a very simple and very neat specimen of gotliic architecture. The length is 42 feet, andthe width 25 feet. It is 16 feet stud, aud wLU afl'ord accommodation to the number of 250 to 300 members. The cost of the building has been about £'210. The windows are of ground glass surmounted by gotliic moulding upon carved bosses. The workmanship is of the very best kind, and reflects the greatest credit on the contractor. The architect is Mr. T. B. Cameron.—March 25.
