THE THAMES.
"VVe have been informed through a gentleman generally well informed upon native matters, that some commotion is observable among the natives in the above district, owing to the news of the movements of fighting parties now encaged in the Tauranga and Botorua districts. Tile tenor of information is to the following effect, namely, that Monunui (Thames), and Pita (Coroniandel), were on their way to Ohinemura to attend a meeting convened by Mr. Commissioner Mack ay. Two natives also came in there from the TJpper Thames with the news that the Hauliaus had taken and made prisoners thirty Aran as near Eotorua. The remainder of the Arawas had taken refuge " on the island " in the swamp. They reported further that the Hauliaus had taken two war canoes. Mr. Mackay las gone up the Thames to look after the iS'ga±ipo:i> :t was rumoured that in the event of the Ngntipoas not t>emg found, a force was to be sent in search of them. The name of the island left i id to is, Puhiu;a; inknd of Maketa.
