LAKE HIGHWAY BOARD

We arc glad to see tliat the local Boards' recently formed on the North Shore are resolved to begin active operations under the new Highways Act. Already the Board at the Lalce has repaired the dangerous places on. the North Road leading to tlielTlagstaff, and it is intended to keep that road thoroughly passable during the winter. The Trustees held their first meeting in the school-room, on Monday last, when there were present Messrs. Allan O'Neill, Shea, Greenwood, Vaughan and Menary. The following propositions were unanimously adopted by the Board 1. " That Mr. Allan. O'Neill be Chairman of the Board for the current year." 2. " That Mr. Hugh Mcllhone be Secretary and Collector, at a salary of £20 for first year, and that the Chairman be requested to notify this appointment to his Honor the Superintendent." The Chairman thanked the members of the Board for the honor they had conferred upon him in placing him at the head of their first local institution. He could not plead ignorancc of the duties as he had spent a considerable portion of his life amongst public works. He should be very glad to give them all the information his experience suggested. Their funds would not be very .large the first year, but they must first do the worst places 0 n the roads, and leave more extensive works for the future.

After transacting some formal business the meeting adjourned. Mr. Mcllhone's appointment as Secretary to the Board has been well received by the ratepayers.
