HAWKE'S BAY.

.Bt the Star of the South we have received Hawke's Bay papers to the 25th inst. We take the following from the Herald of that date :—

Rumours of Wab.—On Saturday night a message roached Pa Whakairo to the effect that a large party jf hostile natives had assembled at Titokura, and hud marched towards this province by way of Pohui, their object being , to attack tho friendly natives in the vir.iuity of Napier. Anani Matete and other malcontents are suid to be among them, and their number is estimated at over 200. The natives hero scarcely know what to think of this intelligence, but it has excited them very much, and their chiefs wero in communication with the government early yesterday. We believe that some assistance was given them in the shape of ammunition, and that should it be wanted, more effective co-operation will npfc he withheld. Tho probability, however, is that tho Titiokura mob will think better of it, a3, aesuredly, should they venture thus far, very few of them would be permitted to return in safety to their respective kaingas.
