The cutter Ilero, Joiner, aster, arrived yosterday from Mercury Bay, with swan timber. H.M, s.s. Curagoa loaves to day, for Hobart Town. ARRIVAL OF THE PRINCE ALFRED. The P.TT.Z. and A.R.M. Co.'s s.s. Princo Alfred, Captain Machin, arrivod in harbour yesterday afternoon. bringing tho December English mail. She left Sydney at 3 30 p m. on the 15th instant, immediately on receipt of the English mail. Mot with fresh southorly winds and heavy cross eca on leaving. Exchanged newspapers with her Majesty's ship Esk on the l7th, about 200 to the eastward of Sydney. Encountered fine calm weather across to the Three Kings, which she passed at 10.30 a.m. on tho 21st; light southerly winds along the coast. The Prince Alfred brings a largo cargo several passengers, full particulars of which appear in our Customs entries. ARRIVAL OF THE LADY BIRD. Tho s.s. Lady bird, Captain Kreeft, left Auckland on tho 21st at seven pan , and arrived at Tauranga at ten o'clock next morning ; embarked troops, and left at 3.45 p.m. same day, and arrived yestorday morning at six o'clock. She brings G officers, 195 non-commissioned officers and men, 18 women, and 3G children. The passa o occupied 14 hours; fine weather all the way. The Lady Bird, leaves for tho South at 4 p.m., this day. ARRIVAL OF THE DONALD MACLEAN. The fine new clipper-built fore-and-aft schooner Donald Maclean, which was launched from Mr. Beddoes' buildinsr yard a short time since, returned from Napier via Poverty Bay on hor " maiden trip" yestorday morning. She left this port on the 16th ult., and after touching at Poverty Bay, arrived at Ahuriri on tho 23rd, making aucxeollent run against adversb winds and weather. After discharging at Napier she left again for Poverty Bay, arriving there on the -Ith inst., and discharged stores shipped for tho military contractor at that placc; took in 200 bags of corn, 2 bales of wool. 20 hides, 2 bales of shfep skins. 60 caws of apples. 20 eases of onions, 3 casks oftalluw, 4 cases ofsundrics. ARRIVAL OF THE TAWERA,

The schooner Tawera, Capt, Baker, arrived in harbour yestorday morning from Poverty Buy, bringing a cargo of i 7 head of cattle, 50 boxes of apples. 50 bags of maize, and three passengers. She left Poverty Bay on Monday, tho sth, had N.E. winds to East Cape, then N.W. winds, compelling her to put into Hick's Ray, and Bhe lay there till the following Sunday, tlio lltli, when it blow a heavy gale from the westward. Finding tho anchor was dragging, she had to slip it, and go round to tho other side of the Cape. Lay oIT and on until Monday, the 12th ; weather modulating, she went back and recovered her anchor ; left again on Tuesday, 13th, put, owing to head-winds prevailing, back on the following Thursday to Hick's Hay. Left again on Friday, and since had lino N.W. winds till time of arrival. Owing to the lengthened passage and contrary weather experienced, the Tawera has lost ilvo he-id of cattle and nine pigs.
