CONFISCATION OF 500,000 ACBES IN THE BAY OF PLENTY. The New Zealand Gaze.tte'-oi the 18th contains a most important announcement under the "New Settlements Act," the confiscation of the lands of the rebels in the Bay of Plenty, including of course the district of Opotiki. The following is the schedule of the lands confiscated :— Now therefore his Excellency the Governor, in exercise of the power Tested in liim by tlio said recited Act, doth hereby, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of 'the Color,y of New Zealand, declare, that from tin date hereof, the district the boundaries whereof are defined and described in the schedule to thw order, shall be a district within the provisions of "The L<ew Zealand Settlements Act, 1863," and shall be designated by the name of the Bay of Plenty District, and doth hereby reserve and tal:e the lands within the said district, for the purposes of settlements; and doth hereby declarethat all such lands arc required for the purposes of the said Ac!, and are [subject to the provisions thereof from the day of tho date of this order. ScheduleSay of I'leniy District. All that land bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of the Waitahanui Kiver, Bay of Plenty, and running due south to the Tarawera Birer; thence by a straight line to the summit of Putanaki (Mount Edgecombe) : thence by a straight line in an easterly direciion to the confluence of tlia Hirers Tauwhare and Ohiwa; thence by a line running due east for twenty-five miles; thenco by a line to the mouth of the Aparapara Kiver, in the Bay of Plenty. These lands being in the Province of Auckland will of coarse in a short time pass into the hands of the Provincial Government.
