KADAME ANNA BISHOP.

3r private letter from San Francisco we learn that that celebrated singer Madam© Bishop will shortly visit Auckland. It were quite superflous for us to do more than draw attention to the tact, aa this lady's wonderful ability is world renowned. We tale tha following extracts from the Sati Francisco papers, in which city Madame Bishop is at present performing :—" Madame Anna Bishop will give her first concert in this city for ten. years. During the space that has elapsed she lias sung to enthusiastic in Australia, the East Indies, and the principal cities of England and the United States, and never was a vocalist more generally successfully. She has so much volume of voice, and yet such perfect control of it, that sho could not fail to master all sorts of music, and her repertoire is more varied than that of any artiste of note. Wo have heard her sing in Mozart's 'Don Giovanni,' on one night, ' Bellini's ' Norma,' another, and Handel's oratorio of 'Creation' the next. She is thoroughly schooled, and the true musician is apparent as she sounds her first note. Henriette Sontig, through a long unbroken career of professional toil, had preserved all the freshness of her youthful voice, and her mantle seems to have fallen on Madame Bishop, whose voice is as full and rich aa when we first heard her. She sings ' Casta Diva/ in Norma, equal to any living vocalist, and realizes for the enraptured listener all the magic beauty of Bellini s most exquisite creation. But she pleases us best in English ballads, and we must regard her as the fit exponent of the songs of our land. Madame Bishop is aoccompanied by Charles Lascelles, a pianist and vocalist of rare ability. He has a rich pre tenor voice, which he has the faculty of changing to heavy ba£s with extraordinary rapidity.
