HAMILTON RACES.
These races came off on the 18th and 19th inst. We have received from our correspondent at Hamilton an account of the second day's running. His account of the first day's running has not come to hand. SECOND DAT. Galloway Flat Hace, for ponies of 14 hands 2 inches and under ; weight for inches, top ■weight lOst. 71b., distance three-quarters of a mile. Topsy had it all her own way in' this race, walking over the eoursc, being unchallenged by any competitor. GARRISON STEEPLECHASE. Tins race was for value, 25 sovs., entrance three sovs., weight for age, top weight 12st. 71b., distance two miles, officer riders. There were six entries, but two of these did not start. The following is the order in which the horses were placed at the winning post:— Captain Stone's Weka 1 Mr. Blackman's Rocket 2 Captain Hind's Little Dick Captain Anderson's Kiwi Captain Trench's Nun Mr. Turner's Kern Hoot. Nithcr Nnn nor Pern-root came up to the start. But there was a capital race between Weka and Rocket, the first-named winning by a few lengths. The ground was very heavy and the ditches stiff, the horses not taking kindly to the jump the first time. All circumstances considered, the Stewards performed their duties satisfactorily, and deserve great credit. HOROTIU CUP. Mr. Reynolds' Billy Barly Barlow waited over the course. CONSOLATION STAKES. This, as its name implies, was for beaten horses. The only horses that came to the start were Mr. Turner's Katty Darling, and Lieutenant Chilson's Argyle; the former winning easily. We cannot close our notice without mention of Mr. Harris's large hotel, where excellent accommodation was found both for man and , beast. The new hotel has fifteen bed rooms, , extensive stabling accommodation. It is situated on the banks of the Waikato, and visitors to the races are not a little indebted for their thorough enjoyment of the sport to the interest taken in their comfort by its excellent host.
