The ship Salamander, Captain Clarke, cleared yesterday at tho Customs f«>r Melbourne, and will sail to-morrow. She will there ship her boilers, mach nery, &c., for tho auxiliary screw, and th-rii proceed to Gladstone, Queensland, for another cargo of cattle for this port. WEEKLY SUMMARY. The weather during the past week his been fine* and we think it can now be said that summer has set in. Wo have; however, been favoured with occasional refreshing showers, proving most beneficial to the farmers and. country Bottlers, besides laying the dust. The arrivals this week hare been very few, and our harbour presents a very bare appearance but as a number of our English and Colonial vessels are now due, we may expe t to sec before long a fleet of craft anchored in harbour. The arrivals comprise on Sunday last the schooner Zillah from Napier, via the coast, with maize, prt>du-e, &c. ; on Wednesday the fine cattle ship Salamander arrived from Gin ?et no, Queensland, with a cargo of fat cattle for the contractor, Captain Johnson ; ehe had a very tempestuous pas-age, of thirteen days, but fortunately arrived without any loss to her live stock; from this por* she proceeds to Melbourne f«»r the purpose of shipping h«r machinery, boilers, auxiliaiy screw, #c., after which she will leave for Gladstone, Queensland, for tin*' r cargo of cattle for this port. On ThursU..,* cutters Sea Belle and Three Sisters arrived lrom Hokitika, with passengers, &c.; the American barque Matias Salvinius, which came in yesterday from Valparaiso, with flour : and the Beautiful Star, from Napier, with sheep, completes the 'arrivals.

The departures were the brijp Princes Alice, for Valparaiso, imd barque Anne and Jano, for Newcastle, on Saturday lust: the cutters Roso and Sea Shell, for Canterbury, with sawn timber, on Sunday: the P.N.Z. and A.R. !Vl. Co.'3 b.s. Lord Ashley, for Southern Provinces, 011 Monday; tlio schooner Boindie, for Canterbury via Wangapoa, on Tuesday last; and the ship Aliquis, for Nicobar, on Thursday.

The Enterprise, ferry steamer, has made her trial trip and commenced the ferrv service between tho Queen-street Whaif and the Flagstaff, and will, no doubt, prove a great success. Great satisfaction was manifested on tho port of our commercial community by tho receipt of tho September English mail, which arrived in tho Manukau per Airedale, on Monday last. AR 111 VAT. OF THE SEA BREEZE. Tho regular t; a l'n? Bihooner Sea Breeze, Captain TV. Korris, arrived in harbour last evening from Ru33ell, after a good run from that port, having left at 8 p.m. the previous night. She brings the following cargo and passengers:— 150 sheep, 10 bales wool, 5 tons potatoes, 10 maize, 20 ducks, 40 fowls, 140 turkeys, 2 sacks fish, X ton pork. Passengers—Mr. "W. Lloyd, Miss G. Adams, and three in the steerage. ARRIVAL OF THE MATIAS SALVINIUS. Tho American barque Matias Salvinius, Captain Douglas, arrived in harbour early yesteiday morning from Valparaiso, bringing a c irgo of 5000 quintals flour, consigned to Messrs. Cruickshank, Smart and Co. She left Valparaiso on the Sin October, and experienced fine weather throughout. Captain Douglas reports tho discovery of several rocky islands, not marked down in the chart, full particulars of which will appear in our next issue. Mr. J. W. Bain, American Consul, is agent for tho Mstias Salvinius. We have to thank Captain Douglas for file 3 of tho El Mercurio, up to the date of his sailing. ARRIVAL OP THE BEAUTIFUL STAR. The B,s. Beautiful Star, Capt. Morwick, left Napier on Sunday, the 3rd instant, at 8 p.m., with fine calm weather; on Monday at daylight anchored oil' Mahia Bluff, where she took on board a wha'o boat and several Maoris for tho purpose of assisting in shipping a cargo of sheep. At 1 pm . anchored off fllahanga and took on board 700 Bheep, shipping the balance of the cargo by 7 a m. next morning, Tuosday, and then started for Auckland Had strong northerly winds with fino weather until rounding tho East Capo at 5 a.m. on the 6th : at 9 a.m. it then blowing a strong gale from the westward, was compelleJ to put i-ifco Hick'a Bay for shelter, but upon its moderating at 7 p.m., got under weigh again, and sinco hod strong S.W. and N.W. breezes, arriving hero at 5"30 p.m. yesterday. The schooner Success, from Napier, bound to this port, wis lyirg in Hick's Bay when the Beautiful Star eaile'd. The p s. Sturt left Hick'a Bay at 1 a.m. on the 6th for Napier via Waiapu and Poverty Bay, having 011 board Donald McLean, Eaq., Superintendent of Bay.
