THE STAR HOTEL.

Amongst the candidates for a license at the Justices' meeting to-day is the Star Hotel, now being erected in Albert-street for Mr. Macready. We have now before ns the design of this spacious and commodious family hotel and can only say, that it would be an injustice indeed, and a direct interfering wiih the requirements of the public were any attempt made to prevent the erection of such hotels by the fear of issuing too many licenses. Wo know that there are many most commodious and handsome structures now in course of erection for hotel purposes in Auckland, but the one before us is, we believe, unsurpassed.

It commands a frontage of 5(5 feet to Albertstreet, is three stories, in all 40 feet in height, with ample cellar accommodation below. The height of the first-floor is V.) feet, of the second 11 feet, and of the third 8 feet, and contains in all 25 rooms, four of which are on the groundfloor, eight above them, and thirteen in the upper story. In addition to these are large and convenient back premises, such as kitchens, etc.

The hotel is designed by Mr.«T. B. Cameron, and is of a handsome and imposing appearance. It will be built of brick, and contains on the facade 1(3 windows. There are two front entrances or doorways, and an arched carriageway through the building to the rear. The upper storey is surmounted by a handsome balustrade, and the view from the two upper storeys over the harbour and country beyond, will add not a little to the attractiveness of the house .

It is just this class of hotels that is so much needed in .Auckland, and of the forty new applicants of to-day we are glad to find so many offering the family accommodation which a correspondent declares, and all know, to be so scarce in this city. Wo wish its proprietor every success, and trust that his new house may be as profitable in its i-eturns, as it will be a credit to Auckland, as a handsome addition to our street architecture.
