PAPAKURA.

[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. J December li J , 186-i. The rumour that the 18th and 50th Regiments were under orders to proceed at once to Wanganui alorg r.'ith sOm9 of tbu transport corps, causcd u

little stir amongst the detachment of the latter body stationed here on Saturday last. Accordingly, at 2 o'clock p.m. there waa a general inspection of arms and accoutrements. They were put through different manoeuvre# by tlieir attentive and favorite officer, TCnsign Coates, now commanding the Transport Corps Btatioued Here, and all of them acquitted themselves admirably. Having so many fatigues, convoys, guards, and other duties, as well as looking after their horses, it is highly creditable to Mr. Coates that llis men should appear so soldierlike, especially as they are alt militia. Color-Sergeant Malloy, of the 18th Royal Irish, is acting Sei'gcanfc-Major, and seeing the cheerful manner they do everything he orders, it is quite clear he is well liked by the men. Here let nte observe that the efliciency of the detachment in all matters connected with their duty is greatly attributable to him. They are after completing a noncommissioned officers' mess, and they all appear now 113 jolly a.s sandboys. The men have also manage® to get up a dancing class, which is a sufficient test they prefer an evening's amusement to an evening s drinking. General Cameron and staff passed through here on Saturday morning.
