The Native Rebellion.
CAMP PL'KEIM.Mt'. [rcov OCR OWS COnKKSPOXDENT.] April 10. Matters hp here are as dull p.nd monotonous us it is possible lor them to he tlie whole tune anions the men is who is, and who is not going into Auckland lor the winter, but I think the only addition tn tho Auckland garrison during the winter will consist of nhout Artillery men and the head-quarters of the Engineers. Two companies of the s!)th liegimeiit and one of the guns stationed ut Munjiatantnri wore withdrawn and lelurned to Camp Pukeiimu dining the day. The steamer iB expected in to night, and is to be loaded immediately with guns and mortars «•« route to Taranaki. Colon.'! AViuldv commands tho Puksrimu district, namely X'garuawaliia, Whata, Mungulautaii, Kungiriri, snd any other posts that may be tbnned in this part of the country. There has been a rumour in Camp for the last day ■or two to the effect that the Colonial Defence Force is to be disbanded ; if there is any truth in the rumour, I think the Colojfial Government will commit a great blunder. The fact of the matter is, a more useful and a better body of men could not be found, and there is a feeling' anions them .vliich is pretty general that their cervices have never liven properly appreciated : and to judge from their conversation lew if any of ihem will remain in the force even of it is not discarded, alter they can leave it, which will he 1 believe in a couple of months more, as they say they only eng.lged for 12 months. I would advise the Government to exert themselves in retaining tho service of the men who at present compose the Defence Force ax they are up to their work in every respect.
