One hundred and fifty of the Melbourne volunteers had been sent, out. to build redoubts and oeeitoy the position. On the 20th, Sentrv Mill was permanently occupied—" the very (lav four vears says the JJcrnlJ. "that V,'."Kinj;i "committed the first open act of hostility, in oil' the surveyors from Teira's biock." Tin? only important news from Wellington is the tone assumed by the "West Coast- natives. Dr. Fentherston lately paid a visit, to the natives at Otaki, as we heard" by last advices. We now learn the answer to his arguments made by the principal chief', Heremia " Listen to me ; I will give you all my thoughts ; f will hide mid secrete nothing. lam the man wlu> put up the King llag at Otaki. lam the man who made the King's laws here, who appointed the magistrates, police, soldiers, and who wrote letters to the King. lam the man who repudiates and defies the (Jucen's magistrates; who prevents the King's people from going or listening to the Queen's magistrates. I will continue this work. I will never surrender my guns, powder, ammunition, &c., nor those of my people (King's) to tile Uovernor's authority, and will continue to send my people to assist the King. 1 will not allow any of mv people to be taken into custody.
