WILLIS STREET.

For the last three or four weeks, workmen

have been employed levelling Willis-street, from the lower part- on Lamb ton Quay, to- ' wards Ghuznee-street. In doing so, they have left many of the houses perched rather uncomfortably upon .eminences, whilst others of the inhabitants on the opposite side of the way, have now to make a sudden descent of some two or three feet into their warres, that is to say the' centre of the door is now about on a level with the improved line of road. All this must be pleasant, especially of a dark night, when forgetting the obstacles, the owners may stand a fair chance of damaging their necks by stumbling into their own domiciles. This might have been remedied in the first instance by a little forethought ; and we trust for- the future it will prove a warning to all those . persons who intend building. " It is very easy for them to ascertain the true level of the street, so that they may build accordingly, and thus save themselves from the disagreeable alternative of either erecting a new house, or adding to the hight of the old one, and making a cellar in addition of the lower part.
