THE GOVERNMENT BRIG.

Mrs. Pilcher with her three children arrived from New Plymouth on Monday last, having walked the whole distance in 12 days. She describes the Maories as having been very kind to her and her children while on the journey. They carried their blankets, and supplied them with provisions, and carried them over the various streams and rivers. We are happy to be able to report such kind acts of the natives, and especially at this moment.

Mrs. Pilcher states, that the Government brig Victoria arrived in the New Plymouth J^oads the day of her ' departure, hut warn unable to slate win_«» kUc Wig was to depart for Nelson, or whether the Bishop was at New Plymouth,

Since writing the foregoing, we hear that Mr. Seranke has arrived from New Plymouth, and states that the Government brig Victoria sailed from Taranaki for Nelson last Sunday week. By the arrival of the Government brig, last night, we learn that the Star of China had arrived at Nelson from Sydney, bringing intelligence of the arrival of Captain Fitzroy at that port. We understand the mail from England by the Mandarin is on boa.d of the Victoria.
