Edward/ Prince of Wales, is said to be popular with the maids; of France. One returned warrior tells how lie entered a French inn and saw a young officer sitting at a. table, and on each side of him a rustic maiden, .with whom ;he was chatting gaily. The young gentleman in khaki was the Prince of Wales. He is a bright lad and bids fair to be as great a favourite with his people as was his grandpa.
Melba sang"Faust" in. New York ':& few weeks back when the temperature was 10 degrees below zero. In that „ cold, with enow falling, thousands of people stood outside the ; opera houses for hours hoping to gain admission. Thousands were turned away. By the time the curtain went up, dealers were ■ selling seats for 20 and 30 dollars. The house was packed and the enthusiasm terrific. After the first act Melba was recalled about twenty times. The same thing happened after each act. That applause showed exactly where Melba stands in the eyes of the world of art.
