A Moral for Red Fed. AntiConscriptionists.
(For the New Zealand Free Lance.) (The Germans recently deliberately bombed or shelled a hospital on the Western Front causing 100 32 being killed.) Human harvest, from a mowing By the scythe of Death, lay there ; Though the Red Cross lights were glowing, Asking foes to pass —and spare. Staff and patients both are lying Mingled in the carnage red; While above the dead and dying Soar the 'planes whence bombs have fled. German banners, blood besprinkled. Still wave over scenes like these; Yet the laggards, craven hearted Scheme to stay at home in ease! What care they for those who perish 'Neath the hands of cruel Huns; "lis iihemselves alone they cherish, Sheltered by our soldier sons. Patriotism, for them has vanished, One poor fetish they adore— Their own comfort —all else banished; "Pay iis higher 1" they implore. Selfish aims will bring disaster To all schemes, however fine; Germany will be your Master If you arm not, brothers mine! —J.C.T.
