Yachting.
The Port Nicholson Yacht Club held their final race for 1917 last Saturday. The following were the entries: — Waitangi, Kotiri, Bona, Atalanta, Viola, Venus, White Wings, Windward, lolanthe, and. Ethel. The wind was a strong northerly, and the course was from the Slip Wharf, Evans Bay, round Jerningham Buoy, back round buoy in Evans Bay, twice round.
The Waitangi led throughout, closely followed by the Kotiri, then came the Atalanta, Viola, and Venus. The Evans Bay Buoy was rounded by Waitangi, Kotiri, Atalanta, Viola, and Venus in that order. The large cutter saved her handicap and took first place", Kotiri second, whilst the Venus and Atalanta tied for third place. The Rona gave up, and the White Wings did not start.
The launch Doris left for the Sounds the beginning of the week.
The Wairere, Trixie, and Wylo go on Saturday, to be followed by several other yachts that intend making the trip.
It is to be hoped that good weather will attend them on their annual cruise, and I wish to extend to all my fellow yachtsmen my heartiest Christmast and New Year greetings, and I trust they may have the best of weather and sport during the holidays.
