A well-known, Wellington lady-, whose home is now in Canada, writing by bhe last mail to "a" friend in.. the Empire} City, sends the following bit of gossip about Lady Gwendoline Onslow, who' in her girlhood,: made many friends, in New- Zealand, when her father (Lord Onslow) was Governor here Abo-it three months ago the Hon. Captain, Guinness was here recruiting fop the Navy, and his wife came with him,- and it turned out that, she was Lady Gwendoline, Onslow , before she - was\ married. Her father used to be Governor of "New Zealand. I knew her quite, well,in New Zealand when we were both" kids, ; ?x.d I often used to go to Government House to play with lier and Lady Doroviy. She is *so nice- and pretty-—a bit like Mrs. Arthur Duncan.' She seemed so pleased to see me and. so interested in New Zealand. Of course, her mother and poor Huia (Lord Onslow's, younger son who fell in the. present war>, were . in New Zealand about 12 years, ago, staying with the Charlie Johnstons, and they were always great frieaJs ci Zoe and Alice Johnston: They "till hear lots of New Zealand news, and 5b e says she hopes to go back, there for a trip some day. Lady Gwendoline spoke at a recruiting meeting here one night, . and spoke so well. ' Not a bit nervous,, though the theatre was full. Indeed,,: she spoke better than her husband.
