BOWLING NOTES

By Wrong Bias.

On Saturday last two, rinks from Newtown visited Seatouri arid had a friendly go on the sea-side club's green. Armstrong's rink met that skipped by "Billy" McGirr, and the rinks skipped by Miramar Councillors Underwood and Green were pitted against one another. The former game was very evenly fought up to the twelfth head, but from then on "Mac's" team did no good, whilst the .visitors piled l on 17, the game ending— : McGirr 14 (scored .on 7 heads) Armstrong 26 (including two s's). On the adjoining rink the run of fortune was . just the other way. A 2 in the 3rd, sth, and 7th heads was the best r the visitors could do up till the tea, "'adjournment, on the 14th head, when the board showed 6—21. Upon resuming, a lop-sided game ended in Green's favour by 27 to 17. Newtown thus won .on the aggregate by 43 to 41. The green is in by no ineans a satisfactory condition, consequent upon the depredations of the grass grub, which is proving a hard customer to deal with. - ...» ' ' •» « . The" Champion Singles of the Newtown Club has. been narrowed down to the final between Noble, who beat Powell, and "Jack Braekenridge, who accounted for Jim Pollock after a very hard-fought; game..

The . game beitween , Noble and Brack ■will be keenly watched, as the former has attracted quite a large amount of attention this season on account of his display of" unexpected prowess in the late tournament. If he wins, his victory will be very popular. The "Underwood Cup" Handicap Singles have now. commenced on the Newtown green, there being 36 entries divided into six sections. Section, play should be finished by March 11th. . Syd. .Underwood, of tlie Newtown Club, returned last week from a muchenjoyed 500-mile motor tour in the Manawatu and Rangitikei districts. ■» ■» » «• , The two beyond-the-tunnel clubs, Karori iand Hataitai, had - a friendly contest. At Karori, Ballinger's visiting rink settled McLennan's home rink by 19-11. Cooper, however, evened things up somewhat by putting down Slater's quartett© by 19-16. Thus Karori were 5 ddwn on their own green. Hataitai fared very badly on their own cabbage patch. Lloyd (Karori) inflicted a sound beating upon Cheeseman (28-11), and Burn ("His Worship" of Karori) almost did likewise to Hataitai's Ham, who was well cooked at 28-12. Karori's total score was 86, and Hataitai's was 58. The attention of all true, loyal Britishers is directed to the Wellington Patriotic Exhibition, which opens in the Town Hall on Saturday next week, the 19th inst., at 3 p.m., and will remain open right through the following week, closing 10 p.m., Saturday, the 26th inst. The objects of the Exhibition are to encourage and educate New 'Zealanders to buy British goods and to support the. locally-made article. As the Exhibition concerns every class of the community alike, t should be patro-

nised by one and all. Admission is free, and an interesting collection of exhibits is promised. Our country cousins are advised to take advantage of the special week-end fares arranged on the railways. The objects of the Exhibition are just as much to their advantage, and should secure them wholehearted support: \
