Young* Lucy nibbled at her pen, A maiden fair and sweet, Perplexed, she wondered how to fill Her registration sheet; She had to truly state her age, To ask the thing was mean, But, frowning hard, she told the truth, And wrote down, "17." If she were single, or a wife! That put her in a pet, So, in the "married" column, she Inscribed the news, "Not yet" ; While, as for her "dependents," well, Whoever heard such stuff? '
But, there! she must confess, so she Wrote, "One; my kitten, Fluff." For "occupation," she set down She would not be averse, Provided 'twas a handsome lad, Some soldier boy to nurse"; While, as regards an extra task, "I'm willing, too," wrote she, "That, when I tire of nursing him, He should start nursing me."
