" LUKE" OUT!

The Mayor and the Bread Trust.

ANY Wellington citizen who, ever doubted whether Mr. J. P. Luke would make a good Mayor, must long ago have come to the conclusion that he, the doubter, was a mighty poor judge of character. _ For "J.P." has "made good" as Wellington's Chief Citizen in a hundred different and most useful directions. His latest project will be watched with hopeful sympathy by every Wellington householder. This is the proposal to establish one or more city bakeries at which the automatic bread-making system will be adopted. The Mayor is confident _ that the thing can be done, and that if it is done it will have the effect of putting a longneeded check on what has now apparently become a greedy and selfish Trust. * * * * ■ .We wish the Mayor, every success with his project. TTnless the Mayor, after going thoroughly into.. facts and figures, is convinced that a City Bread Bakery will be a payable proposition, we may rest assured he won't proceed with it. But a good many people think that such a venture would pay, and pay very well, and tbe fact that the Council was practically unanimous in giving a preliminary and general support to the project augurs well for the chances of success. If you can bring down the family bread bill. Mr. Luke, you will deserve the gratitude of every family man in the city.
