Hockey Notes.

By Bully-off

ff N the senior club contests last Sat- § urday, the leading team, Karori, received a nasty bump from Wellington, thereby reducing their lead for the championship by two points. As University are next in the running, their meeting with Karori will be fraught with special interest. There is qne point difference betweeni these two teams.

The inconsistency of -the Wellington team is astonishing. But a few Saturdays ago they played a drawn game with Karori. They marred this effort by going under to United by 6 goals to 1. And now they come up smiling again

by defeating Karori by 3 goals to 1! Karori were weakened by the absence of Stratton and one or two others, but none the less, Wellington, were the better team on the day, and there's an end to it.

When Karori saw how things were going, they moved Loader, their crack I'eft winger, to bully, but the change brought no material result. Neither he nor Bradley, full-back, can be held responsible, however, for the loss. The nippy little Shearan and Bree and* 'Waugh contributed Wellington's goals, and Heapy scored for Karori.

University outclassed Ramblers with a score of 5 ~oals to nil. The scorers were McMillan, Foden, and C. Strack.

In a seven-a-side tournament! at Auckland last Saturday, Mount Eden swept the board by winning the senior, junior and' third-grade tournaments, while the Mount Eden ladies further enhanced the record by winning the ladies' senior tournament.- In the men's senior final, Mount Eden defeated University by 3 .jals to 2.

An old-timers' match was played in Christchurch last : Saturday between Saturday and Thursday teams. The former triumphed by 3 goals to 1. Some of the old-tu'mers who participated in

the "outing" were Rankin, Free, Cade, Howison; "Smiler" Smith, Barrett, Anderson and Hoskin. The curtain will be rung down on hockey in the Cathedral City this Saturday with a niatch between Sydenham, the champion club team, and the next best eleven in the city. * * * * The Wellington ladies' representative team to take part in ' the. tournament commencing at the Basin tomorrow (Saturday) consists", of Misses K. Skinner (goalkeeper); M. Neumann, D. Williamson (full-backs); W. Hunt, C. Terr?, H. Laurenson (halves); R. Smith. J. Dobbyn, C. Smith, M. Carrick, and N. Laing (forwards). It is a good team, particularly strong in the forward line. In Miss Smith it possesses a bully who played in last year's English team. Wellington have a solid nroposition in Poverty Bay to tackle in their first match, but they should give a good account of themselves. Tlio' distrust . may submit each new claim to dispute. Unanimity ever prevails, Where years of integrity build the repute Of a medicine that always avails. Such decisions are rare, and the sceptics beware Lest vile frauds should, their favour allure; For they know the sad dearth in such treasures of worth As Woods' Great Peppermint Cure.
