LAN HAMILTON.

A Famous Soldier and His Mission, GENERAL Sir lan Hamilton is with us, and lie merits hearty welcome. There has been, some foolish talk about,, the "uselessness" of his visit. Some * people think that because Lord Kitchener visited us some years ago (and gave advice that, has only been followed in part), nothing remains that a soldier of the Empire can do for us. As a matter of fact, General lan Hamilton's visit is peculiarly' timely and apt. Lord Kitchener laid the foundations; Sir lan Hamilton comes to inspect and criticise the_ beginning of the edifice. Our territorial scheme has not been long in operation, and it has been carried on in the teeth of much prejudice and insensate opposition. We shall now have the advantage of knowing what one great authority thinks of it. Sir lan Hamilton is a great authority. H© is highly skilled in all a soldier's craft. He is a man of wide experience and exceptional skill in his profession. From his youth he has been a profound student of military .history and tactics. He is a sound Imperialist. There could have been no wiser choice of a man for the need of the moment.
