jr FTER all the banquetting and junketting of big tournaments, the incidents of club and local •competitions seem to be very coantiruonplace. Yet, let it be said for the local tennis • devotees that they are looking forward with kindling interest to the resumption of our local competitions, some of which were resumed on Saturday last. As a general rule, the contests should be all . the more spirited because of the respite, for there are very few players who have not managed to ?get income solid practice during the holiday season. The resumption of the Shield and Cup fixtures -was held over until January 29th, and the matches which were postponed, on December 18th will be played at the conclusion of the respective first rounds. Last Saturday's arrangements were as follow: — Penmanst.—Victoria College A v. B, at College: Muritai v. Newtown B. at Ne-wtoAvn ; Newtown A v. Brougham Hill, at Brougham Hill; Kilbirnie v. Petone. at Petone. Fuacquiet.—Brougham Hill v. Trinity A. at Trinity: Oriental v. College A, at Day's Bay. Nos. 6, 7. 8: Khandallah A v.
