The Lance lias read the Sydney "Bulletin's" new magazine, "The Lone Hand," from the title page to Hordern'e ad., and is astonished to find there's nothing to growl at in between the covers. For one tiling, the "Lone Hand" is out to whoop for Australia, and, maybe, while at is whoopang it will have a shout or two for th£s patch of scorm. It doesn't tell lies, either. There's a heap of stuff in the "Bulletin's" magazine besides 1 the masterly whoop. You can't find any fault with the short stories, miuoh of the verse is good, and the disclosures- of mednoal and gambling frauds will open a few eyes.

The first part of J. F. Arahib&ldfs "The: Genesas of the 'Bulletin,' " is disappointing—there isn't half enough of it. "J. F." has a way with him, right enough. It would be a top-notch magazine "without The Judicious Thief," which is frankly stolen matter. It is in a class by itself for skilful stealing. Piotuies, Al, Norman Lindsays illustrations being particularly rich. He was always a genius, but is beginning to "take pains." Printing and general get-up watnout fault. Price., one 1 shilling. It's worth it.
