Stores Manager's Office, Wellington, 20th March, 1902. THE Railway Department is prepared to purchase Rimu, Miro. Kalukatea, Matai, Totara, and Tawa SLEEPERS, for creosotmg. in lots of 200 or more, delivered and stacked at any railway station or siding between Eketatauna and Takapau, and Wanganui and Woodville. OFFERS TO SUPPLY, STATING PRICE AND NUMBER OF EACH KIND OF SLEEPER AND PLACE OF DELIVERY, WILL BE RECEIVED AT THE STORES MANAGER'S OFFICE UP TO 30th APRIL, 1902. Sleepers to be of the exact dimensions of 7ft by 8m by sm, at least one half head- I wood, free from bark, large knots, shakes, and other defects. They may be either sawn or hewn, but must be truly rectangular in shape and out of winding, sawn square at ends and the hewn sleepers must be neatly dressed. They must be cut from large trees (no honeycombed or burnt timber will be accepted), to be stacked as directed, and to be approved and passed bv the Railw ay Inspector. Sleepers will be inspected in the bush if so required by the suppliers but no Inspector will be sent to pass a less number than 2-30. On receiving notice of sleepers being lead" for inspection, the District Engineer Wellington, will send an Inspector to pass and brand them. After the sleepers have been inspected and branded, the supplier must deliver them at the railway station or siding at which he offered to supply after such dehvorv has been made the Inspector will give the supplier his certificate, and for &uc3i as have passed inspection payment will be made within fourteen days, or as near as may be, of the Inspector's certificate having been ghen. Twenty-five per cent, of the number undertaken to be supplied, to be delivered bv the end of May, 1902 fifty per cont. by the end of July, 1902. and the whole bv the 31st October, 1902 NOTE. — As the sleepers are required tor creosotine;, attention is specially directed to the necessity of their being; absolutely in accordance with the specification particularly as to sbane and mzp filling which they will not be accepted.
