Overheard on Thorndon Yacht Club's skids — Two small boys in conversation First small boy — "Why do they call that yacht Rainbow?" Second small boy - ■ Well, T s'pose its cos she's so round." On the Viking's trip across the Straits, to Queen Charlotte's Sound, her bowsprit snapped off short when she was off Jackson's Head, in the Terawhiti Rip, and in the heavy sea running she ran into the Sounds under a foresail. The crew went bush-falling on a small scale, until they secured a suitable piece of timber to rig up a jury bowsprit, which carried them into Picton, whence they sent to Wellington for a spare spar which was soon forthcoming. The Waitangi crew are at present very busy lengthening their boom about five feet, to take the new Lapthorne and Ratsey mainsail just imported from England. It came to hand this week by the Papanui, and it will give tbe yacht a much larger sail area, so look out Rainbow and lorangi'
