The Swifts Club has decided to hold its annual carnival at the Te Aro Baths on Saturday 14th instant The committee has arranged a very attractive programme, including a polo match with the Thorndon Club members and a teams race The programme also includes such popular events as the Ladies' Bracelet 50vds and a 250 yds handicap In a letter to the honorary- secretary of the Wellington Centre, received from Mr. J. Borlase, honorary secretary of the Wanganui Amateur Swimming Club, he states that the local club is making rapid progress and is expected this season to be larger than for many years past He also states that probably some of the most prominent swimmers will be here to participate in the Wellington Club's carnival on the 22nd January Local enthusiasts aic constantly complaining of the negligence of the New Zealand Association. One prominent sport refers to their neglect as inexplicable and disgraceful Mr. J T Gray the popular captain of the Thorndon Club, was compelled to walk home in -net clothes on Sunday morning last It transpires that at the Thorndon Baths on the above morning two boys got out of their depth, and were vainly struggling to reach a place of safety when their dangerous position was noticed bv Mr. Gray, who promptly dived in and rescued the youngsters. A similar incident occurred about a week ago, when Mr. F. Roberts had to assist a boy from the water. More of these accidents, with probably worse results, will have to be recoided unless the City Council act quickly and have a more suitable division for small boys erected at the baths
