TIk 1 Poit Nicholson Yacht Club's season was opened on Saturday, with handicap races for first and second class \ achts There was a fresh north-west breeze The entries for the first-class race were — Rainbow and lorangi (scr), "Waitangi (2mm) A good deal of interest was taken in the contest, owing to the fact that lorangi winch was recently built bv Logan Bros., of Auckland, for Mr. A. H. Turnbull, was sailing her maiden 1 acf\ and that she was competing against the past and present yachts of the oolonv Waitangi (Messrs. Gfeorgeson and Jameson) crossed the line 20sec after the starting gun went Rainbow (Mr R C Yj. Mills) went across 2osec after Waitangi and lorangi lOsec after Rainbow. It, was a very pretty race to the Worsor Ba^ buoy. Waitangi rounded the buoy 30sec ahead of Rainbow, and Rainbow Bsec ahead of lorangi. Rainbow rounded Koro Koro buoy about 40sec ahead of Waitangi lorangi being about 18sec behind Waitangi The Rainbow crossed the line first, at 4hr ")Bmm 3."> sec followed by lorangi at "hr Oimn 28see and Waatangi at shr Omm o8«ec. The race was therefore won by Rainbow, on time allowance Waitangi taking second place. The second-class race was won by Siren (Messis Johnson and Blacklock), 3mm, which finished 3:jmin before Atlant (.Mr. Otto Schwartz) scr, and more than lOmin before Dr. Fell's Mahina. The handicaps were drawn up by Mr. W. Munckton, Mr. R. C. Renner ably acting as starter, judge, and timekeeper.
