NOTICE OF HEALUNG Ni'AV ZEALAND LAND CLAIMS. Land Claims Office, Wellington, February 6th, 1843. J WILLIAM SPAIN, a Commissioner appointed « for investigating and determining Titles and Claims 7 to land in the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby give notice that I shall proceed to investigate the undermentioned Claims at my office, in Wellington, Port Nicholson, or at Porirua, Waikainai, Otaki, Manawatu, and Wanganui, alias Petre, (the times of folding my Court at each of the aforesaid places being hereinafter stated as far as circumstances will permit) on Friday the 24th day of February, and following days, at 10 o’clock in the forenoon. Case No. 09 (6) — John Guard, of Cloudy Bay, claimant. A piece of land, contents not stated, situated at Port Nicholson, bounded by the Korokoro, and from thence running to Heretanga, or fresh water river. Alleged to have been given to claimant by the native chiefs Ahie and Wononga, on the 19th September, 1839. Consideration —various services rendered. Nature of conveyance —not stated. Case No. 191— Frederick Peterson, of Sydney’ Merchant, claimant. 23,040 acres more or less, lying all that piece or parcel of land situate on the North Island of New Zealand, in Cook’s Straits, being E.S.E. from the Southern point of Kapita or Entry Island, and known by the or me of Wainuri, a small river of fresh water running iuto Cook’s Straits, the said parcel of land extending one mile frontage to the North of the mouth of said river, and running East twelve miles, and also two miles frontage to the South of the mouth of the said river, and running East twelve miles from the beach of Cook’s S'iraits. Alleged to have been purchased in November 1839 from the native chiefs A Houlomouth and Apie. Consideration —various articles of merchandise, value not stated. Case No. 356—The representatives of the late Thomas Ellison, claimants. 2000 acres more or less, situate in Cook’s Straits known by the name of Kowiwa. Boundaries not stated.' Case No. 356 (a) — The representatives of late Thomas Ellison, claimants. Two miles square, situate in Cook’s Straits, inside of the island of Mana, and known by the name of Teeti, bounded on the N.W. by Cook’s Straits, on the N. E. by a remarkable hill called Witara , on the S.E. the Porirna river, and on the S.W. by a barrier ridge, extending from Cook’s Straits to the Porirua river. Alleged to heve been purchased from the native chiefs Bookari and Ewari, by Thomas Ellison, on the 11th October, 1839. Consideration—a quantity of merchandise to the value 100/. Nature of conveyance—Deed in favor of Thomas Ellison, dated 11th October 1839. Case No. 383 (a) —William Mayhew, of Wahapu, Bay of Islands, claimant. A piece of land (contents not stated) situate on Kapiti, beginning at a point called Warikohu, thence by a given line to Paraparaunne, thence to Taiereniango, and thence to the sea shore which bounds the land to Warekohu. Alleged to have been purchased from the native chiefs Twiwi and Tupeora by present claimant, in December, 1839. Consideration—merchandise to the value of 150/. sterling. Nature of .conveyance—not stated. Case No. 383 (b ) — William Mayhew, of Wahapu, Bay of Islands, claimant. Five acres, more or less, called Tauramaorie, being an island situate on the East side of Kapiti. Alleged to have been purchased by present claimant from the native chiefs Rangahieta and Ropera, in September 1838. Consideration —merchandise to the value of 65/. Nature of conveyance—not stated. Case No. 383 (d ) — William Mayhew, of Wahapu, Bay of Islands, claimant. Five acres, more or less, being an island in Cook’s Straits, at the East end of Kapiti, called Mohengurara or Lewis Island. Alleged to have been purchased from the native chiefs Echo, Rangihero, and Epuni by claimant in 1839. Consideration —Goods to the value of 60/. Nature of conveyance —not stated. Case No. 390 (e) — John Whitely, on behalf of the Wesleyan Missionary Society, claimant. A piece of land situate at Port Nicholson, boundaries and contents not stated. Alleged to have been purchased from certain native chiefs, not named by the Rev. J. H. Bumby, and Rev. Mr. Hobbs, on behalf of the Society, on the 13th June, 1839. Consideration—not stated.. Nature of conveyance—the Land tabooed by the natives. Case No. 397 — John Bbabshaw, of Wanganui, claimant. A piece of land situate at Porirua, containing two acres, more or less, boundaries not stated. j Alleged to have been purchased from the native chiefs Merimeri and Pioti, by claimant, on the 26th December, 1839. Consideration—one Fowling piece, two pairs blankets, and other goods to the amount of 21. Nature of conveyance—An agreement, in writing, in favor of claimant, of the above date.
