COROMANDEL.

(from a correspondent.) The principal news from our quarter is the discovery of new finds of gold by our enterprising prospectors. Some few days ago, a party working about two miles above the (alls on the Mata-nwai, were come upon before they bad any idea of their new discovery being known. The party alluded to consists of six persons. They have sunk a shaft on a very good looking lender, the stone from which cannot be called rich, but the goi'l can be plainly discerned with the eye, and bids fair to become better the deeper they go. As soon as this news became generally known, several of our old bands determined upon taking a few weeks prospecting in the hope of striking something better. Our old friend Alurpby is again at work on his favourite spot, about lialf-a-mile north of the party above alluded to, where, about twelve months ago, he reported to have found payable gold. Some very pretty specimens were obtained during last week by a party who have commenced sluicing, below the falls ; one piece, although nut very large, contained at least seventy-five per cent, of the real metal, notwithstanding which, of course, the prospectors are at present not making wages. On the Kapanga side everything wears the same aspect as it has long done. The claim which takes its name from our little township continues to do very well. Some very rich stone was taken out the other day, but only in small quantities. They are always, however, obtaining gold-bearing stulf, whether rich or otherwise. A few very rich specimens were taken out of the Coromandel claim this morning. The erection of the battery is progressing, and, it is reported, will commence stamping next week, when all hope to sec a good return ; everything in connection with this claim is of the very best, and the ground thought most highly of. The AYaibau Gold Aliuing Company's Engine is stamping away, but what the result of the last ton day’s crushing is, no one but the manager knows. The puddling machine, the first in Coromandel, and which will work in conjunction with the battery, is not yet complete. A party started on Friday last, for the purpose of prospecting at Mataharahiki, where gold is said to have been found in payable quantifies, which news, however, 1 fear is too good to be true ; but the first intelligence 1 receive on the subject, shall be communicated to you.
